Creatures. Perceptions. Real & Imagined.

Inspired by my father’s dementia, this series looks at the combination of real and imagined as it explores the fragile boundaries between memory and fantasy. Through a captivating interplay of art forms, these works delve into the profound intricacies of the human mind.

In this series, the composition becomes a portal to both the tangible and the intangible. Each piece beckons viewers to journey along the paths of their own minds, prompting contemplation of the delicate dance between perception and deception.

Through this creative endeavour, I aim to foster empathy and understanding for those grappling with cognitive decline. I hope to illuminate the beauty that can emerge from the fusion of real and imagined realms. In doing so, the series stands as a tribute not only to my father’s struggles, but to the profound creativity that resides within us all, even in the face of adversity.

The process:

Each piece starts with a photograph, which serves as the initial inspiration. This photograph then sparks the creation of an illustration. The photograph and illustration are subsequently combined, resulting in a merged image. Finally, the newly formed creation is enhanced through the application of a digital watercolour effect, overlaying it with a delicate and fluid aesthetic.
